What if I want an epidural?
Women who plan to have an epidural should still plan to have a Doula prior to getting an epidural it is recommended to be a certain number of centimeters dilated to prevent a significant slow in labor and entail prevent an unnecessary cesarean birth. With or without an epidural labor can slow and need to little push in the right direction to get things progressing without further risk to mom and baby. It helps to know some of these techniques and tools to help have a successful, uncomplicated birth without an anxiety
What if I have pre existing medical conditions?
This is even more of a reason why you should have a Doula to have continuous support throughout your pregnancy and someone who cares about you personally and can remind you to pay attention to what your body is saying to you can save a life.
What if I already had a cesarean?
Contrary to popular belief a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) are very common and doable. Having a Doula will give you the support and knowledge that you need to communicate with your provider what it means to you to have a vaginal birth.
What if I want a hospital birth?
Doulas are often welcomed in many hospitals often it just takes a talk with your healthcare provider to let them know letting them know you have a Doula and they’re definitely all game for the assistance in ensuring a healthy pregnancy and labor. Doulas provide the personal care many obstetricians simply can’t.
What if I don’t think I can afford a doula?
Don’t be afraid to ask! Find other women who care about you and have experienced birth and would have loved to have a birth without trauma and fear or anxiety. I can almost guarantee you’ll have their support. You can ask for it as a gift for your baby shower! And most Doulas offer payment plans to make things a little bit easier
What if I’m not pregnant yet?
As women we need to know our bodies, how they work, and what they are capable of doing. Whether you’re trying to conceive or your really not sure if you want to have children yet it would be amazing to get a headstart at understanding your body and preparing for a healthy pregnancy and magical birth. Education, practice, and repetition makes it even more possible for you to have the birth of your dreams so why not start now! A doula may not be the best fit just yet but I highly advise checking out the “Power and Sound Mind Project” to get a new understanding of pregnancy, childbirth and the power you have!
